Thank you for your interest.
All the sculpture you see on the web site is produced in our studio. Scott Penegar creates original sculptures in clay or wax. After the original is finished, he makes a rubber mold, then casts a duplicate from the mold.
Rather than use the mechanical process of the mass-production houses, each piece from Penegar Studios is completely produced by hand -- hand poured, hand sanded, and hand painted -- by the artist himself.
Sculptures are cast in two materials. The first is called Hydrocal and is a type of Gypsum cement. We call these sculptures "interior pieces" because they are not completely weatherproof. They will hold up on a covered porch or in a humid bathroom, but they will erode over time if exposed to direct rain.
The exterior material is completely weatherproof and can last outside in any environment.
The interior sculptures can come in any color, while the exterior ones are mostly done in Verdigris or in an off-white color we call Julie Brown, named after a good friend.
Most of our sculptures are limited editions. All are hand signed by Scott Penegar, and each comes with a tri-fold card that gives information about the sculpture, significance of the subject, and a biography of the artist.
